It's not often that you find an art gallery tucked inside a body shop, but that's what you see at Holmes Body Shop in Pasadena, Calif., thanks to the artistic inspiration and leadership of Tracy Holmes.

Tracy persuaded her husband, Tom, who owns the shop, to set aside part of the office space for displaying artworks by artists who can't afford to pay expensive fees elsewhere.

Instead of paying entry fees to participate in the show,
the artists are required to give 10 percent to 25 percent from the sale of their work at Holmes to a nonprofit project called "A Creative Collision: Children Meet the Arts."

Tracy, an artist herself, got the idea after the funding for the arts was cut in the Golden state. "We're one of a kind," says Tracy.

An exhibit and reception on June 9 were successful, lasting one and a half hours longer than anticipated. "We had a full house," says Tracy. Some people from Allstate and State Farm attended the benefit, along with local artists.

"It feels good to make a difference in society," says Tracy.
