| Artist Reception The Holmes Gallery will kick off its latest exhibition with a reception on Wednesday, February 19, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. for Pasadena born artist John Brosio. Brosio's paintings explore a wide range of subject matter, from quiet landscapes to the fury of tornadoes, as well as the artist's images of people as they enjoy conversations in coffee shops and bars. Brosio graduated from the University of California, Davis where he studied art under Wayne Thiebaud As a student, he interned at George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic. Portfolio at the ready, he had groomed himself for a career in movie special effects when he realized this was not the direction his talents were taking him. In spite of the difficulty in transferring his special effects training to painting, he has successfully made the transition. Brosio's work has been displayed in a group show at the local Mendenhall Gallery and he has a rotating exhibit at Buster's Coffee House in South Pasadena. He recently had a number of works displayed in a Kansas City show. The Holmes Gallery is in the Holmes Body Shop Corporate Offices (1095 E. Colorado Blvd.) and is open during regular business hours. The Brosio exhibit will be Up through March, followed by a show of multimedia and fine art created by local elementary school students in classes at the Pasadena Arts Council sponsored Children's Center for the Arts. |

| More than 150 boys and girls, ranging in age from eight to 15, make up the three choirs of the Los Angeles Children's Chorus. They are ranked by vocal and musical ability into Apprentice, Intermediate and Concert groups, and all have the opportunity to perform. Or. Saturday, February 15, the Intermediate Choir and the Phoenix Girls Chorus will perform a free concert at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall (54 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena). The program starts at 7:30 p.m. Formed in 1986 by Rebecca Thompson and Stephanie Naifeh, the Chorus is directed by Anne Tomlinson. Members are drawn from school and church choirs throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Weekly rehearsals are augmented bv classes in musicianship and sight-singing. Vocal coaching assists in developing healthy singing habits. The emphasis is on excellence in every aspect of the choristers' experience. With repertoire selected to fit each choir's skill level, established classical works and arrangements of folk songs from around the world are performed in many languages. The Chorus has thrilled audiences with it's clarity and precision and with the exuberance and vitality of its performances. Each year the Los Angeles Children's Chorus presents two independent concerts and performs with other vocal groups, symphonies and orchestras. Members have also appeared on television and movie soundtracks. Touring is a highlight in the life of Chorus members. They have traveled extensively in the United States and Europe, presenting programs, performing at national choral conventions and participating in children's choir festivals.
