| Last Sunday afternoon, 100-plus children and young people had the opportunity to show off how creative and responsible they can be when given a chance. "A Creative Collision - Children Meet the Arts" called on professional artists and entertainers to present a family oriented day of workshops, demonstrations and entertainment showcasing many facets of the arts. There was no charge for participation in multimedia art activities, dance experimentation and martial arts instruction. Singers, musicians and dancers on-stage inspired young artists to pursue their artistic interests for future career or leisure enjoyment. Thanks to members of the "Friends of the Children's Center" Benefit Committee and many volunteer adults and young people, the event at Holmes Body Shop's Pasadena corporate office property was a great success. Under the inspired leadership of Tracy Holmes, the committee volunteers rounded up an impressive array of drawing prizes, food and beverage donations, as well as entertainers and workshop presenters of the highest caliber. Thanks to the generosity of Pasadena Society of Artist members and other donors, the silent auction of fine art brought in a significant contribution to the Children's Center for the Arts fundraiser. Framed, hand-woven "mola" art works from Guatemala, donated by Mrs. L E Cool, were snapped up at attractive prices as were original paintings by local artists Ray Schmit, Rachael Winn Yon, Virginia Robertson, Marijane Heben and others. Bidding was hot and heavy on several entries, with the bidders carefully watching the action. The "Friends of the Children's Center" Committee wishes to say a sincere "thank you" to the local businesses whose donations greatly contributed to the success of the afternoon: 1I Forniao, Burger Continental, Domenico's, Green Street, Pie 'n Burger, Twin Palms, Acapulco, Amigo, L Fiesta Grande, California Pizza Kitchen and Magpies restaurants; |
